8-13 Casson Square is a 32-storey mixed-tenure residential tower rising above the new Waterloo Underground Ticket Hall and forming a key gateway to the Southbank Place development.
The building brings together private market homes with 98 keyworker homes for Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, alongside commercial uses at ground level. Its position above the ticket hall draws people from York Road and Waterloo Station into the heart of the new neighbourhood.
Responding to the neighbouring Shell Tower, the architecture has a strong vertical expression with a clearly defined base, middle and crown. Portland roach stone, textured stone detailing and bronze-toned metal reference the material character of London, while projecting oriel windows give depth and rhythm to the façade. The unitised façade system creates visual complexity within an ordered and efficient framework of construction.
