White City Living transforms a formerly isolated industrial site into the open landscaped heart of a new urban quarter for West London. The mixed-use development for St James will provide more than 2,000 multi-tenured homes over an active ground floor of commercial, business and leisure space, all integrated within a parkland setting.
Bounded by rail lines on three sides, the masterplan forges new connections both over and under the rail infrastructure, looking beyond redline boundaries to stitch together the adjoining media, academic, retail and leisure uses into a cohesive neighbourhood. From the lush Central Gardens to the waterscape of Counters Quay, the landscape strategy contributes to publicly accessible green spaces, while creating strong axial links to the north and south.
The architecture in the centre of the site has a refined tonal palette of limestone and bronzes, drawing on the heritage of the White City area and urban parkside skylines. To the east, the four colourful Cascade buildings will be clad in reactive-glazed terracotta panels, developed with an artisan potter through painting and sampling. The first two phases are occupied, with Phase 3 nearing completion, Phase 4 preparing to start on site, and Phase 5 already in design.
