Pierhead Street is a new boarding residence for Cardiff Sixth Form College, comprising 10 and 18-storey elements and forming part of the College’s new campus in Cardiff Bay.
The building provides student accommodation alongside shared lounges, communal spaces and indoor and outdoor amenities. A podium establishes an active frontage to Pierhead Street and creates a strong relationship between the building and the surrounding public realm.
The architecture responds to the character of Cardiff Bay and the nearby Grade I listed Pierhead Building, combining glazed volumes with red brick screens to give the building a distinctive identity while rooting it within its context.
