Howells is the heritage-led transformation of Cardiff’s Grade II* listed former department store into a mixed-use city-centre destination combining homes, hotel, workspace, retail and leisure.
The framework celebrates more than 150 years of history, retaining and restoring the significant buildings that make up the existing urban block while introducing a new central building. New routes open up the formerly enclosed site, reconnecting it with Cardiff Central Market and the surrounding city.
At its heart, a new public square creates a focus for activity, surrounded by a carefully curated mix of uses that brings new life to the historic complex. The proposals balance conservation and new development to secure the long-term reuse of one of Cardiff’s most distinctive city-centre landmarks.
